Spanish-English Translator/Interpreter Support to JIATF-South

Location:  Joint Interagency Task Force South, Truman Annex, U.S. Naval Air Station Key West, Florida

Responsibilities Vancro is currently seeking Spanish Interpreting and Translating Specialists to support Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATFS). Translators/interpreters shall provide expert translation within the unique environment of counterdrug (CD) issues, initiatives, operations, policy and directives that will come from DOD, Interagency (IA), Allied, Participating Nations (PN), and US Country Teams within Central and South America as well as the Caribbean. While the operating environment is counterdrug centric, it includes all adjunct illicit actives, in accordance with current interagency, DOD and Allied policies relating to counter terrorism, weapons, and money.

 Details of the position:

Translator/Interpreter performs as the translator within JIATF South. Provide the full spectrum of translator services within the command or those visiting the command. Performs expert translation (speaking, reading and writing) of the Spanish language into the English language and vice versa. Skill in applying this knowledge to difficult and complex work assignments and to the development of new methods, approaches, or procedures. Participates in the development and/or revision of technical and nontechnical glossaries and/or literary works, used both nationally and internationally. Participates and translates in round-table, and free flowing discussions and meetings. Translates difficult and modern terminology and concepts as a daily occurrence. Many conversations are translated simultaneously between English and Spanish. Provides assistance to other Translators both inside/outside the organization on a variety of issues and subjects. The interpreting situation or subject matter involved requires use of originality to find ways of conveying ideas or images which may be uncommon in, or unknown to, other cultures or languages.

Researches specialized terminology in printed and oral references, on the SIPRNET and Internet, and consults international and U.S. subject matter experts and members of academia, for conversion into Spanish or English, ensuring consistency with past usage, and also assuring correct meaning, intent, and concept of the author/speaker. To provide the best possible translation, the incumbent has excellent knowledge of counterdrug planning tools used to delineate and disseminate the Director's intent through concept of operations (CONOPS), operations plans (OPLAN), campaign plans, and operation orders (OPORD) that assess, plan, coordinate, conduct CNT operations, promote security cooperation, and support U.S. country teams and participating nation CNT initiatives. Exercises broad authority in the translations for near-, mid-, and long-term land, air and maritime CNT plans and operations that support detection, monitoring, sorting, tracking and hand-off of suspected CNT events. Translations directly support the national goals and objectives of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and USIC Interdiction guidance, USSOUTHCOM strategic goals, objectives, and CNT directives, as well as JIATF South's regional campaign plans goals and objectives.

The translator/interpreter edits machine translations, and work translated or written by other translators and by international and U.S. military personnel, and ensures that such editing does not compromise writer's meaning and intent. Translator/interpreter has the necessary multicultural awareness, and is responsible for correct format, grammatical structure, punctuation, clarity of expression, word usage, and maintenance of concept and intent of the original text or spoken word.

Provides translation/interpretation assistance not only to the directorate, but also to outside translators, other federal/state government offices, agencies, and the community.

Translator/interpreter receives prioritized tasking and direction from the International Affairs Division Chief and is a critical member of the International Affairs Division.

Experience and Education: Required: Applicants must relocate to Florida for this position. This position requires the ability to obtain and hold a SECRET clearance. (Resume must show that proposed employee currently holds a SECRET clearance with previous access to SECRET level of information.) At least 5 years experience as a Translator/Interpreter. Highly Desired: Bachelor of Science or Arts degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred: Prior experience working directly as a Translator/Interpreter in a classified environment.
